The children had the opportunity to speak to local professionals as part of their careers day at school on Friday 22nd June.
60 children took part in the event to help raise awareness of some of the different types of jobs, which were on offer helping them to aspire to their own chosen career as they move through primary school and into secondary education.
The children were delighted to have the opportunity to interview a nurse, a structural engineer, an IT technician, a police officer, a school caretaker, a primary school teacher, a travel agent consultant, a sports coach and a Bishop Auckland College careers advisor.
Each adult talked to groups of children for 5 minutes explaining how they decided upon their chosen careers, what education and qualifications they would need and what they have to do on a daily basis. The children who were aged between 7-11 had the opportunity to ask many questions to find out more information.
Mrs Boustead, DHT said, “It is vital that we give our young people experience and knowledge about a range of careers. We want to inspire them, show them that their learning in school today helps shape their future.”
