Class 3 have been making potions by following a simple recipe. When doing so they had to see what the measuring cylinder went up in, make estimations and measuring accurately. We had a lot of fun doing this as well as learning how to measure in ml.
March 2021
Today, we took part in a session from Spanish Lingotots, we had a fantastic time learning as well as dancing!
On the 19th March we celebrated Red Nose Day. We had a class quiz which we had great fun with especially working out the riddles! We then took part in Red Nose Day activities, one where we had to design our own funny red nose!
Our topic this half term has been Italy. One of our tasks has been finding out about Mount Vesuvius. We researched information and wrote fact files in our Geography lesson. We then used this information to create an information poster on Microsoft Publisher. Our task was to create a title, insert images and type text. Some of our posters are on display in our classroom.
Science Week
Well done to these children in Class 3 for participating in the whole school challenge based on creating an invention! You did a fantastic job with very creative ideas!
Learning to sign
Due to Covid restrictions, we cannot sing in class like we normally would. This has not stopped us, we have been learning sign language to our class song instead in Music. We have to listen to the song words carefully and learn the sign language to match.
Fractions
In maths we have been looking at fractions. In this lesson we used counters to help us find fractions of an amount.
Coding
In Computing we have been using Scratch. We have had a lot of fun creating animations using codes to create stories, our name, create a game and make a moving screen saver. We have inputted codes to make a conversation, make characters move and add sound.

December 2020
Class 3 had a fabulous times at their Christmas party!
Class 3 have been busy during the last week of term. We made our Christmas cards, wish boxes, Christmas baubles and calendars in the style of Pablo Picasso.
This half term we have been learning all about Europe. We only have four countries left to fill our Christmas tree. We have been so excited when we received post from a different country. We have been busy researching different capital cities of the countries in Europe, the weather compared to Cockfield and we also wrote a non-chronological report based on a country in Europe for our display.
This week was the last week of our Clarinet lessons with Mrs Unwin. We thoroughly enjoyed our lessons.
November 2020
In Class, we have started our new topic in Science, force and magnets. Today, we have been investigating do all objects move the same on different surfaces? We had a range of materials to test and we made our predictions. We carried out our investigation in the hall and to make it a fair test we used the same ramp and toy car. We were very excited to see which objects moved the furthest and which moved the slowest because of the material and friction.
In Class 3 this week, we have been planning our writing. We are going to be writing a story with a dilemma. We have based this on the advert of Kevin the Carrot. At the start of the week, we picked adjectives for Kevin and used a Thesaurus to collect alternative synonyms. We then planned our writing using a story board so that it had a clear beginning, middle, problem, resolution and ending. We are excited to write our full story!
In Class 3, we are taking part in a project called, European Christmas Tree Decoration Exchange. We are sending our baubles to different countries in Europe and they will send us one in return. We are taking part in this project as our Geography topic this term is Europe. It will help us learn about different countries, cultures and traditions. We are very excited!

In Class 3, we have been learning about Remembrance Day. In class, we had an assembly and held a two minutes silence. We then made information posters about the day. In our writing, we have done a Remembrance Day RIC and we are busy writing a setting description about the film War Horse.
October 2020
Class 3 have had a wonderful last day before half term! This morning, we went to the hall and played musical statues and had a dance competition. We then came back to class and we designed our masks. We then created a Halloween scene in our Sketch Books. This afternoon, we did some maths Halloween themed code breakers, mindful colouring and created a pumpkin carving design. Have a wonderful week off Class 3, you have worked very hard!
In maths we have been revisiting doubling and halving. With our partners we made 2-digit numbers and halved and doubled the number. We looked at partitioning and this helped us.
In R.E we have been learning about Hinduism. Recently, we have been learning about Diwali festival. Diwali festival is the festival of light. People make Rangoli patterns outside their doors in the hope the Goddess Lakshmi will visit them. We created our own Rangoli patterns.
Class 3 have been making Leek, Potato and Onion soup. The vegetables were from our School allotment. The soup has been taken to the YMCA Café in Cockfield.
September 2020
In Science, we have been continuing with our topic of light. We have been looking at shadows. We drew around our shadow at 9am and predicted what would happen by lunch time. A few hours later, we then stood over our shadow and looked at what had happened. We realised that our shadows were shorter when the sun was higher. We also noticed that our shadow moved so this meant that the earth is moving. We also learned that a shadow is formed when object blocks the light. We had lots of fun learning about shadows
We have been very lucky in Class 3 to have Mrs Unwin come into our class and teach us Music. Until December, we will be learning to play the clarinet which we are very excited about!
In Maths we have been comparing 3 and 4-digit numbers. The Year 4s played a game of dominoes with their partner to compare the 4-digit numbers. We recapped over what the symbols < and > meant to help us write number sentences.
In History we have started the topic of the Stone Age. We investigated what people from the Stone Age ate by dissecting ‘Stone Age poo’. We then sorted the food into what they would have hunted and what they would have gathered.
In Computing we have been looking at coding. We have been coding flappy bird. We have also been coding Frozen. When we were coding Frozen we had to input the correct codes to make Anna and Elsa make shapes on the ice. We had lots of fun as well as learning about new codes.

Welcome back Class 3!
It is so wonderful to see you all back and smiling! We have had a busy week back at school. We have been adding to our class charter by designing rainbow hands, we discussed how we should behave in the classroom, around school and in our bubbles! We have also been busy in Maths! We have started our topic for the term ‘Place value’. Year 3 have been looking at 3-digit numbers and Year 4 have been looking at 3 and 4-digit numbers. Then, in English, we started our new book: Here we are by Oliver Jeffers. We have been making a prediction about the story and we are planning to write a poem about our favourite place. Finally, we have been using our health and well-being board on a Friday. We discuss how we are feeling at the start of the week and how we feel at the end. The session helps us to collect our thoughts and feelings and we feel very calm after.
