Today we had two very special visitors in our school. Sebastian from Ecuador and Floris from the Netherlands worked with children in Key Stage Two, they showed powerpoint presentations and discussed the cultures, traditions and history of their countries. The children were very interested and were able to share the culture of our country. Sebastian and Floris are both studying at Durham University, they visited because they are interested in gaining a greater understanding of education in our country.

We are proud to announce that we have received a letter from the Rt Hon Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Standards congratulating us on our high achievement in reading, we are in the top 1% of Primary Schools in England to receive this success.
Attendance Award February 2018
To help promote attendance across the school we have launched a new prize draw for 100% attendance. It is to say ‘thank you’ to the parents and carers that work so hard to get their children to school every day. Each half term a £10 Costa Coffee Voucher will be up for grabs! Each child that has had 100% attendance for that half term will be entered into a prize draw and a winner will be chosen in assembly. Their family will receive a £10 voucher to spend at Costa!
Our first winner was Chloe, congratulations on 100% attendance Chloe! We hope that you and your family enjoy the voucher.
Butterwick Hospice
This week we visited the Butterwick Hospice in Bishop Auckland to deliver the cheque for the money we have raised, in school, over the last few months.
We were fortunate enough to be taken on a tour of the hospice and learnt a lot more about the fantastic work that they do.
We were shown all around the hospice and visited the beautiful gardens, the children’s playroom and the welcoming family day room.
The children really enjoyed the experience and we are honoured here at Cockfield to have raised the sum of £332.71 for this amazing charity!
A huge thank you to everyone for their support!

This week, our whole school took part in a silence, in aid of the Butterwick Hospice. This is the third and final event the Emeralds’ House has organised to raise money for this well-deserving charity.
KS1 coloured in pictures, whilst KS2 read their books, and all the children did amazingly, staying absolutely silent for the whole time!
A huge thank you to all the children and parents for your fantastic support!
Mrs Gregson.

On Tuesday 30th of January we opened our doors to some of the most loved people in our lives, our grandparents. The children had a busy day on Monday preparing for their arrival as we baked some yummy stained glass window biscuits to share for snack. The grandparents were welcomed by Darcey and Henry who escorted them to the hall. We had organised a very special treat for our visitors with the Music Man Brendon Renwick visiting to teach us the Science behind Sound and Music. After a jam packed hour of fun and frolics we shared a yummy snack. We even had sausage rolls and cake. With full bellies the children were terribly excited to show their grandparents around our EYFS Unit. We played, we laughed, we shared stories of school days past and then unfortunately we had to wave goodbye to our lovely grandparents. All involved had a wonderful day.
