Educate & Celebrate LGBT+ Gold Award
This Educate & Celebrate LGBT+ Gold Award showing ‘Best Practice Status’ recognises the commitment Cockfield Primary School has shown to support equality and diversity within school, the community and throughout the North-East. Since launching the programme in November 2017, the children, staff, Governors and parents have worked together in promoting our school into an LGBT+ friendly place. In our school entrance we have made a permanent rainbow flag display, this is made from rainbow coloured glass tiles which the children and staff worked collaboratively to produce. We have also held special assemblies, worked in house groups, and enjoyed completing LGBT+ activities during focused lessons. We also shared some of our work at the 2018 LGBT+ showcase and held our own ‘PRIDE’ event. Finally, more recently, were part of the amazing Great Bake-off Final making cakes to the theme of peace, reconciliation and activism. Everyone has worked extremely hard, we are truly an LGBT+ friendly place, and proud of it!
We would like to say a big thank you for all the training and support, provided by Educate & Celebrate, especially Claire Pattison, whose support and guidance we could not have done without. Educate & Celebrate has helped us realise that we all have a very important part to play in promoting equality and diversity, we are all on this journey, let’s do it together.
